Mating Lizards Costa Rica

I’ve been meaning to write a post like this for a while. Since we moved into this house, we regularly encounter new, interesting creatures. While I don’t always take photos, I think I have enough now to make a decent post. I don’t know the names of most of these animals, but all that you see in the photos and videos below were found either in our house or in our garden here in Grecia, Costa Rica.

Some are dangerous, like the cute little fuzzy caterpillar, where simply touching it can cause swelling, numbness, fever, and more. Or the cane toads that can shoot out poison strong enough to kill a dog (if it gets in the blood stream). Others are just cute like the squirrels and the hummingbirds. My favorite are the cool green lizards with blue tails, who got a little too carried away in their mating dance (see what I mean in the video below).

  1. The lizards are my favorites, and the hummingbirds. I especially like when a hummingbird perches on a branch next to the kitchen window, and I can watch it do its cute little hummingbird things up close. :) The squirrels are really cute too. It was funny when we caught one sitting on top of our bananas on the front porch. Then, of course, the butterflies are sooo pretty. :) Ahhh…wildlife.

  2. What a fun, interesting, entertaining and educational environment. Love that you are capturing photos of all of these.

That baby bird was sweet. The lizards were very cool – and entertaining. Hummingbirds are always a favorite – the way they dart around reminds of little fairies, more than birds.

Can’t wait to come see them in person. Be sure to order up a nice variety for my visit (though you can scrimp on the wasps and any biting bugs)

  3. Fun!!!
I love the video!! That would be great to see all of those different animals/insects. Thanks for the pictures :)

  4. oh such a lovely variety or birds, animals and insects. Nice you could and would share them with us.

  5. The lizards with the blue tails are so cute! The caterpillar looks cute and fluffy as well – if only it weren’t poisonous… :P

    Bon voyage! :D
