Destinations

In 2009, we sold our house to travel the world as a family, experience new cultures and languages, and expand our minds. So far, we’ve been to over 40 countries and dozens of cities and towns. Below, you can find a map of the highlights. Clicking any location will take you to posts about that location. (Note: Some of the places we’ve traveled may not have yet made it into blog posts or on this map.)

We have over 10 years of experience traveling with kids of every age from 0 to 15, and we’re passionate about encouraging other families who are interested in long-term travel.

Families who are interested in doing this often have many questions from education and finance, to packing and luggage, to safety and healthcare, to locations and community. If you’d like support in your travel journey, be sure to check out the annual Family Adventure Academy, a 3-day live bootcamp for parents who want to take their families on a travel adventure.

If your family is ready to hit the road, even for a week, we’d love to see you at the Family Adventure Summit an annual 4-day event for families in held exciting locations around the world where you can meet other inspiring families who are doing this, too, and receive encouragement and support in your journey.

For online support, check out our Family Travel Accelerator course, with over 6 hours of training on questions from how to fund your travels, to how to decide where to go, along sharing what we’ve learned on our journey

Those of you who know me well, know that I am fortunate enough not to have a “job”, but have created a business that generates residual income. So I am to a large degree, in control of my own schedule, but I’m still required to work a few hours a day to keep things running smoothly. This doesn’t mean I’m filthy rich, or have loads...

Panama

Our thoughts about what we might do on this trip have changed and will most likely continue to do so throughout our time in Panama. Our main purpose is simply to experience a new place and culture, and enjoy time together as a family. The ways to accomplish this are endless. We have entertained several of the following ideas for activities, in no particular order:...

Learning Spanish Education / Panama

One of the biggest challenges with traveling to a foreign country, for many people, is the language barrier. And since I don’t know very much Spanish, I’m expecting to have less than perfect communication with the Panamanians. Fortunately, I can rely on Jennifer a lot for getting us around, since she does speak Spanish, which she learned on her mission to the Canary Islands. In...

One of the other questions we’re frequently asked about our trip is, “What are you going to do with your house while you’re gone?” For a while, we entertained the idea of renting it out as a vacation home for someone who wanted to come and ski during those weeks, etc. We thought about using services like vrbo.com or sublet.com to list our home. But...

Wow, it’s a lot of work getting ready for a six-week vacation! I guess it doesn’t have to be, but I’m such a planning freak, and like to learn as much information as I can before making a decision (that’s both a strength and a weakness). This week, one of my main focuses has been booking all our accommodations in Panama. But rather than finding...

One of the questions we’re most often asked when telling people we’re heading off the Panama for six weeks is, “Why Panama”? With all the places in the world we could go, why Panama, indeed! Before we started thinking about this trip, all we knew about Panama was that it was home to the Panama Canal. But Jen and I enjoy watching travel shows occasionally,...

Why are we going on a six week trip to Panama? This is a question that could take pages to answer. In future posts, I’ll go into more detail about how we came to the decision to leave, and why we chose Panama and the length of the trip that we did. But in this post, I want to cover the benefits we hope to...

Hello Everyone! Welcome to my new blog! I’ve created this blog in response to interest from several people who’ve mentioned they want to keep up to date with our family while we’re on our upcoming trip to Panama. When we tell people we’ll be gone for six weeks, we get a range of responses, from excitement or happiness for us, to envy or jealousy, to...
