Where Can I Turn for Peace?

May 2010 · 1 min read

I have always enjoyed playing the piano and singing. And I especially love creating my own music. One of my favorite things to do is arrange hymns, and I'm happy to announce that I have finally recorded my latest hymn arrangement in both Spanish and English. It's called "Where Can I Turn for Peace?" and the message is about how we can find lasting peace in our lives. The original hymn can be found in the LDS Hymn book #129.

Listen to the recordings below and let me know what you think. I think I like the Spanish translation best (and the recording is better, too). I have also updated my Music page where you can hear other arrangements I've done.

I should also offer a disclaimer that I don't have any fancy recording studio equipment and the quality of the recordings is pretty poor. I'm getting a better microphone in a few weeks, which should help, but I did the best with what I had (including my very novice recording skills). Here is a list of what I used to make these recordings:

  • Sibelius 6 for music notation
  • Casio Celviano AP-24 digital piano
  • Galaxypianos Steinway D sample (used on Spanish version). I prefer this to Truepianos.
  • Logitech USB headset for microphone (meant for chatting, but it's all I have)
  • Garageband

I hope you enjoy the arrangements! Next I think I'll work on a male quartet arrangement (barbershop style) of "Have I Done Any Good?" Any other requests?

I love that you did an arrangement of this song!! It is so beautiful and such a powerful message, especially in Spanish. While I really like the English version a lot, I like the Spanish version even better. Thank you for working so hard on this. I LOVE listening to it. :)

This is one of my very favorite hymns, Your arrangement and voice are beautiful, You brought me to tears. I enjoyed both the English and the Spanish, but I enjoyed the English best, I suppose because I understood the beautiful words, therefore felt the spirit & message more. Thank you for making this recording.

I love the words to this hymn, and your arrangement touched my heart. Like Grandma Renee, I enjoyed the English version better, and for the same reason. Thanks Brandon for sharing your amazing talent with us. You and Jen are an inspiration to us. xxx

Breathetaking! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I'm so grateful for your talent, because you see, your talent allows me to want to share mine! You've turned a hymn with gorgeous words into a new beautiful arrangement! Thank you for the recording and also the sheet music...this will be treasured in our Sacrament Meeting.

I love the beautiful simplicity of this song. Focusing on the beautiful words and melody instead of showing off allowed your voice to shine through. Thank you.

Do you have an mp3 recording of just the accompaniment music which you could share? Sometimes I cannot find a pianist in my Spanish branch with enough ability to play certain pieces, and it comes handy to have an mp3 of just the music to be able to sing. I love your arrangement in Spanish it sounds great.

    Thanks for sharing

Hi Carmen, I'm glad you like the arrangement. I'm sorry I don't have a recording of just the accompaniment. I seem to have lost the original file I recorded into GarageBand where the piano was on a separate track. When I get some time to focus on this, I could record another one. If I do, I'll let you know. (It may not be for several weeks.)
